Volunteer - Relationship Building Program Coordinator
Position Type
This is a non-paid volunteer position reporting directly to the Executive Director. The Program Coordinator typically volunteers approximately two hours per week for planning and four hours during the week of an event. Scheduling is flexible to accommodate both the Program Coordinator and participants. Events are held on-site, while planning hours may be completed remotely. The Executive Director provides support and guidance as needed. Volunteers who wish to contribute additional hours or plan extra activities are welcome to do so.
Position Summary
The Mental Health Association of Mercer County seeks a Relationship Building Program Coordinator to help plan and coordinate meaningful social and community building activities for adults enrolled in our Representative Payee program and MHAMC housing programs. This role is designed to reduce isolation, build belonging, and create positive shared experiences for people living with mental health challenges.
The Program Coordinator plans and leads one organized group activity each month. Activities may include holiday meals, movie parties, game parties (i.e. bingo), small celebrations, or other events that bring people together in a supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities

Plan and organize one client activity each month within a modest budget

Coordinate logistics including date, time, location, and supplies

Create and distribute event notices to clients in advance

Track RSVPs and expected attendance

Purchase or coordinate food and basic supplies with staff approval

Facilitate activities on the day of the event

Work with MHAMC staff to ensure activities are safe, inclusive, and accessible

Maintain simple records of events and attendance

Distribute brief participant surveys to gather feedback

Optional additional volunteer hours may include supervising open drop-in hours in the MHAMC basement for clients to watch television or socialize

Maintain client confidentiality at all times
Qualifications

Strong organizational and communication skills

Comfort working with adults with mental health challenges

Experience in event planning is helpful but not required
Support and Resources
MHAMC provides staff support and a limited budget for food and activity supplies. Volunteers do not use personal funds for approved activities. A van is available if you would like to improve the program to include off-site limited group activities such as bowling, picnics, or similar outings with a small group of individuals.
Why This Role Matters
Many of the people we serve experience isolation and limited family contact and social connection. These activities are often the highlight of their week or month. This role directly improves quality of life and strengthens community.
