Volunteer Receptionist

This is a non-paid volunteer position with flexible part-time hours working on-site at MHAMC office. This volunteer position would be flexible during our open office hours during times that work for you and we need coverage. This role reports to the Representative Payee Manager as most visitors and office tasks relate to the Representative Payee Program.
Position Summary
The Mental Health Association of Mercer County is seeking a volunteer Receptionist to provide front-desk support at our main office. This role helps ensure clients, visitors, and callers are greeted in a professional and welcoming way while supporting the daily operations of the agency.
This is a flexible volunteer position that can be tailored to the volunteer’s availability. Wednesdays are especially helpful, as this is a high traffic day for clients check distribution and office activity.
Key Responsibilities

Greet clients and visitors at the front desk

Notify staff when client appointments arrive and accompany them to the appropriate office, conference room, or meeting area

Ensure visitors sign in and out using the sign in sheet

Answer incoming calls and take accurate messages as needed

Assist with appointment scheduling

Hand-out Representative Payee checks to clients as directed by staff when they come in on Wednesdays

Perform light office duties such as copying, filing, and organizing and otherwise assist with simple administrative tasks to keep the office running smoothly

May be asked to assist with technical tasks if have skills

Maintain confidentiality of all client and agency information

Support MHAMC staff as needed during office hours

Collect rent checks left at the front desk

Make coffee in the mornings for visitors and empty pot at end of day

Refer clients to other agencies if appropriate for services

Collect daily mail and distribute it to staff

Assist with mass-mailings, address envelopes

Post office runs if able to drive

Monitor security cameras and update the Executive Director if any concerns

Track which staff are in and out of the office
Schedule
Hours are flexible based on volunteer availability. Volunteers may serve as little as a few hours per week or more if desired. Wednesdays are particularly valuable but not required.
Qualifications

Reliable and punctual

Comfort working with the clients with mental health challenges and the public

Basic computer and phone skills

Ability to follow instructions and respect confidentiality

Nice to have only technical skills to assist with laptop builds, printer issues, or other technical tasks

Experience in office or customer service settings is helpful but not required.
